Voyagers and Pathfinders are deep in their third Humanities unit: Current Events in our Communities. For this project, students started by determining what current events affect them and their communities. They created this list through a series of activities including chalk talks, four corners, partner interviews, and a digital gallery walk of procon.org. Students came up with a list of 10 current events that they ultimately ranked based on their level of interest.

Now, students are working hard to research one of six topics: Black Lives Matter movement, Gender Equality, Environmental Issues and Climate Change, LGBTQ Rights, Gun Violence and Community Violence, Immigration, and the Wealth Gap. Students have been reading articles, studying websites, dissecting images, and watching short videos as they practice their research, non-fiction reading, and notetaking skills. This week, students will dive into their project proposal as they decide how they will teach others about their topic.
