On Saturday, April 14 several SLAMS students attended the Lead Like A Girl conference in Princeton, NJ.  Joselyn M., Jayla J., and Sophia C. joined Ms. Martin to help present two sessions at this event.  This conference is designed to showcase and inspire girls’ confidence and creativity in STEM, entrepreneurism, and leadership.  The first session focused on Design Thinking and empathy in STEM.  The girls spoke about their experiences with our Design Thinking unit in tech, and how empathy is a necessary skill.

After their first session, the girls attended a session in the makerspace and learned how to design for a laser engraver.  During lunch, they had a roundtable discussion with Dr. Ivonne Diaz-Claisse from HISPA and learned about her work as a mathematician. The girls then presented again, this time sharing the story of SLAMS and how it helps them become leaders.  They did an amazing job at both sessions!  Congrats on a job well done, ladies!
