Happy New Year! In Voyager and Pathfinder Humanities we’re still beaming over the hard work students put into their “Museum of Current Events.” The day was an outstanding success. 5th and 6th graders helped educate our 90 7th graders and more than 60 family members. The museum opened with a presentation from the Welcoming Committee as they explained the organization of the museum and gave a brief overview of the topics. Then, groups of about 15 visitors traveled with two 5th/6th grade docents to visit each of the seven rooms. In these rooms they listened to the Voyagers and Pathfinders as they presented and shared their hard work. In the reflection room, visitors has the chance to do some writing about their experience. After about an hour and a half of touring, our museum visitors returned downstairs for a wrap-up from our Closing Committee before heading home. THANK YOU to all of our attendees. It was wonderful to be in community with you all. We are very lucky here at at SLAMS!

Student Work
Post-museum, students took some time in their classes to reflect on the experience and what they learned. They also officially voted for which of the current events they want to continue studying — and the results are in! This winter, Voyagers and Pathfinders will be learning about the fight for LGBTQ rights in U.S history. We’re excited to be learning together!
