The 2018-19 school year tipped off the inaugural season for SLAMS basketball team.
It was our first year that we put together both a boys and girls basketball teams that competed against other middle schools in Philadelphia. We participated in the Olympic Division which consisted of schools from Southwest Philadelphia to Center City.
Boys:
It was a very successful first year as our boys finished with a winning record and finished in 3rd place missing the playoffs by one spot. The boys had key wins against Penn Alexander, OEC, Penrose, and Fell. Members of the boys were Zaid J., Robert W., Kamar G., Amoz L., Mehki S., Zaire C., Ali J., Kai B., Kenneth B., Jalen L., Nolen G., and Narayana W. The future is bright for the boys team, this was a great learning experience and the team should be very competitive next school year.
Girls:
It was a dream season for the girls in their first year as they went undefeated and won the Olympic Division. The girls outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points per game. The girls overall record was 11-0. The girls high powered offense was led by Carryn E., Ciani C., Sydney R., Symphany H., Naomi G., Zayeriah D., Stella V., Maya P., Marisa P. and Ahderah P.. They will now participate in the district wide middle grades playoffs which start Monday, March 4th at Grover Washington Middle School.
