Our founding class of students (now 7th graders – how did that happen so quickly?) has been hard at work in Techsplorations learning about digital fabrication and how to use our new Carvey CNC machines.  Students had a blast using both rotary hand tools and the much more precise Carveys.

Our culminating project had students designing a tile for a mural that will represent our founding class here at SLAMS.  Each student was asked to create a design that fit in with our 7th grade theme of Discovery and show a way they have changed or adapted, or something they have discovered about themselves in their time here at SLAMS.

The completed designs were then carved into two colored HDPE plastic tiles using the Carveys.  It was exciting watching their designs move from the realm of digital to a physical item.  The finished tiles are now displayed as a mural in the upstairs hallway for all visitors to see.  Stop by and check out their awesome work!
